🤍 How To Hit The Perfect Tennis Forehand In 5 Simple Steps. In this video, Top Tennis Training coach Simon Konov will help you hit the perfect tennis forehand in five simple to follow steps. The tennis forehand can be complex as there are so many aspects to focus on. The grip lays the foundation for your swing path and the style of forehand you will be able to hit so it's crucial you find the correct grip to suit your game. We recommend using the semi-western forehand grip as this allows for good levels of topspin but also the ability to flatten out the tennis forehand shot if you want to attack. Five Steps To The Perfect Forehand 1. Good Ready Position - Having a good ready position with the racket head higher than the grip level, holding the throat or grip with your non-hitting hand and set up with the racket in the middle of your body will set you up perfectly for the rest of the stroke. Having a poor ready position will cost you valuable time and make the swing more complicated. 2. Unit Turn - As early as possible after you recognize the ball is coming to your forehand side, try to turn your upper body sideways onto the ball/net. This will be your left shoulder if you're a right-handed player. This unit turn will help you prepare the racket into the back position without having to swing as much with your arm alone and also engage the core muscles to help you have the coil - uncoil motion of the trunk later in the stroke. 3. Good Power Position - Reaching a good power or back position with the racket head higher than the grip level will create good leverage in the racket and arm. The non-hitting hand should be across the body helping you balance the upper body but also tracking the oncoming ball. 4. Racket Lag - Creating a good racket lag where the head of the racket lags behind the grip will give you that leverage over the ball that you need for extra power and control. This action should happen naturally without forcing the wrist to bend, it should happen as a result of the stroke mechanics but also by setting up in a good power position, you set the foundation for creating good racket lag on the tennis forehand. 5. Good Follow Through and Finish - A poor follow through and finish can destroy the stroke but also lead to injury. During the contact zone, you want the racket to be accelerating and not slowing down unless you're absorbing power on the shot. For the most part, you want the racket traveling through the contact point with good speed and you want to finish the follow-through at the very end of the maximum swing path. A good finish will help the muscles relax in a natural way and reduce the risk of injury. Perfect Forehand in 3 Easy Steps - Tennis Forehand Technique Lesson

Perfect Forehand in 3 Easy Steps - Tennis Forehand Technique Lesson. We all love the feeling of hitting the perfect forehand when you are timing the shot and giving the ball just the right amount of power and spin in a relaxed way. In order to stay fully relaxed and produce effortless power and spin, we need to make sure we follow 3 simple steps to achieve this. 1. The take-back - making sure you have a deep swing but one that is generated by the body turn (unit turn) separating your shoulders from your hip and creating a nice coiling effect. The left-arm going across the body will help you do this and ensure you are not taking your racquet back too far. Make sure your racquet head does not bend behind the body for ATP Forehand so keep the racquet on your right. WTA Forehand players tend to let it go behind for more power and racquet momentum but less wrist snap and less ability to create top-spin. 2. The contact - this will ensure the direction of the ball so it is vital you have the racquet face pointing away from you slightly in front (somewhere around where you front toe is). The path of the racquet needs to continue going in a linear way as much as possible through contact (avoid the semi-circle) and don't pull your arm across your body. 3. The finish - ensuring a good follow-through is vital. Don't stop your arm, let it go through all the way to stay loose and smooth. having a high elbow finish helps get a nice low to high trajectory and also makes it easy to apply topspin as its easier to rotate your wrist. Even if you do not finish in a classic way over your shoulder still ensure to have a high elbow. 🤍 Tennis Forehand Transformation - Technique For Maximum Power and Control. In this video lesson, Top Tennis Training coach Simon Konov is working on his student's forehand technique, the player struggles with timing, power and consistency on his forehand. The key elements that they focus on are: Early preparation on the forehand with the racket and non-hitting separating earlier in the swing, if the left-hand stays on the racket for too long the player will struggle with timing the contact in front of the body. Reaching a good power position on the forehand - if the non-hitting hand stays on the racket for too long the end result will be rushing during the forward phase of the swing but it also means the player doesn't reach a good power position. The power position is where the non-hitting hand is across the body, almost in line with the baseline, the racket head is higher than the grip level creating leverage in the racket and hand and the body is coiled up, ready to uncoil on the forward phase of the swing. Weight transfer and full rotation - Simon's student struggles to open up the shoulders fully on the finish and this blocks the amount of power he can generate. By uncoiling fully on the forward phase you can generate maximum power and control of the shot plus the weight transfer becomes much easier when done correctly. Tennis Forehand Technique - 5 Golden Rules. When it comes to the forehand in tennis, there are many different ways to hit one. There are different tennis forehand grips, different forehand stances, different forehand swings, different ways to make contact and multiple ways to finish the forehand. Download our FREE forehand guide here - 🤍 However, there are also fundamentals that almost every good forehand uses. These are the golden rules of the tennis forehand, brought to you by Coach Simon of Top Tennis Training. Golden Rule One - The ready position. This includes the forehand grip, we recommend the eastern or semi-western tennis forehand grips. For more help with the various forehand grips, check out this lesson here - 🤍 Once you have your forehand grip sorted, the next step is to ensure you're using the non-hitting hand to hold the throat or top of the grip and you wait in the ready position looking to hit your forehand as often as possible. Aim to cover 60-70% of the tennis court with your forehand. Golden Rule Two - Early preparation and a good coil with the upper body. Time is a valuable commodity on the tennis court, and having early preparation will give you extra time to set up properly to hit your tennis forehand. As early as possible, turn the non-hitting shoulder towards the net and stretch the core muscles. This will store energy in the trunk muscles, in particular the obliques. Golden Rule Three - Creating force over the ball. Tennis Forehand Transformation - How I Changed My Forehand Technique Sometimes what seems like a small technical change can have a huge impact on a tennis stroke. Download our free forehand guide here - 🤍 In this video, Coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training will show you how he changed his tennis forehand technique. Using only one slight adjustment with his forehand, Simon was able to create a massive change with his forehand power, depth and the heaviness of the stroke. Open Stance vs Neutral Stance Forehand When the goal with your forehand is to generate heavy topspin, the open stance is the best option so you can drive upwards as you make contact. By loading up with the open stance, you can create a low to high swing path using the ground force. This is the ideal path for creating heavy topspin but not so good for generating a heavier, more powerful forehand. The neutral stance allows you to step into the shot, transferring your body weight into the forehand. Coach Simon has been competing on the ITF masters tour and noticed in his matches, he was using mainly the open stance on the majority of his forehands. Simon decided to work hard on using the neutral stance more often. Best Tennis Forehand Grip? Eastern vs Semi Western vs Western - Forehand Grips Explained

05.12.2020

Best Tennis Forehand Grip? Eastern vs Semi Western vs Western - Forehand Grips Explained. The grip you use on your tennis forehand will determine a lot in your tennis game.Turn your forehand into a weapon with out FREE guide - 🤍 There are three main tennis forehand grips that you can use, the eastern tennis forehand grip, the semi-western tennis forehand grip, and the western tennis forehand grip. Your forehand grip will build the basis of your game style in rallies. The Foundation of All Tennis Grips There are two main pressure points on your hand when holding a tennis racket. The base of your index knuckle and the heel pad on the palm. Where you position both of these pressure points will determine which grip you're using. It's important to spread the hand out, over the grip, especially the index finger. This will allow you to maneuver the racket with more ease and feel what the racket is doing. You want to avoid holding the racket like a club, with all your fingers squashed together. The Eight Bevels on A Tennis Racket There are eight bevels on your tennis racket, starting with number one at the top. For right-handers, you go clockwise from 1-8, and for left-handers, you go anti-clockwise. Each bevel is a straight line before a sharp edge that goes onto the next bevel. Eastern Forehand Grip If you place both your index base knuckle and heel pad on bevel three of the tennis racket, this would make an eastern forehand grip. This grip allows you to hit flatter, produce a longer contact zone, and suits a more aggressive game style. Dealing with low and medium height balls is easy with this grip, but many players struggle to handle high balls using the eastern forehand grip. This grip works well on faster surfaces such as grass, artificial grass, fast hard courts, carpet courts, and indoor surfaces. Roger Federer and Juan Martin Del Potro are two players who use the eastern forehand grip. Semi-Western Forehand Grip Place the heel pad and index knuckle on bevel four, this makes the semi-western forehand grip. This grip will allow you to deal with high, medium, and low balls but some players will struggle to generate power on lower balls. Ideal for players who like to mix up play, sometimes using heavy topspin and sometimes flattening out the ball. This grip will work well on all court surfaces including grass, clay, and hard courts. Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray use the semi-western forehand grip. Western Forehand Grip If you place the base index knuckle and heel pad on bevel five, this makes the western forehand grip. This grip helps players produce lots of topspin since the strings are closed most of the way. The contact point has to be timed perfectly in order to make the most of this grip. The western forehand grip suits players who play on clay and high bouncing hard courts, but you may find it hard to produce power with this grip. Kyle Edmund and Jack Sock use the western forehand grip. Which Tennis Forehand Grip Is the Best? The best grip will be different for each and every player. For a more attacking game style, the semi-western or eastern would suit them more. For someone who mainly plays on clay and likes to grind, they might prefer the western forehand grip. Which Grip Do the Pros Use? Most ATP and WTA players use the semi-western forehand grip since it allows you to produce both heavy topspin and a flatter forehand when you need it. The straight arm forehand technique is overrated. As a coach I find that it often creates problems for the average tennis player. The Alcaraz "straight arm forehand" is obviously amazing, but recreational tennis players struggle to use the same technique because the straight arm leads to an inability to make adjustments.
