Timestamps for each part are: 0:00 - how they sound in a clean arpeggiated riff 3:27 - with chords thrown in 6:42 - with some light drive + reverb 9:25 - the ones that can do vibrato 11:01 - all on at the same time 11:44 - in a mix with rhythm and a distorted lead . The Chorus pedals featured are the Chase Bliss warped vinyl mkii, Boss CE-2, Mr. Black mini chorus, Boss CE-5, Boss DC-2w, TC 3rd dimension, Caroline somersault, EQD sea machine v3, EHX small clone, TC june 60, and the Zvex instant lo-fi junky . A little award section for my personal picks: Best budget: I’ll go with the Mr. Black mini on this one because it gives one of the best sounds and you get a solid set of features for your money. Runner ups: small clone, CE-5 Best traditional/classic: Personally I’ve gotta go with the small clone because I like its range from subtle to seasick, and it’s not as congested in the midrange which is the sound I tend to like these days. Runner ups: CE-2, 3rd dimension Best vibrato: Warped vinyl for sure. It’s got a killer vibrato and can be sorta lo-fi in a different way than the lo-fi junky so it fits in more standard applications too. Runner ups: lo-fi junky, somersault Best un-traditional: Tough pick but I’ll say the sea machine takes this because of just how extremely un-traditional it is. There’s more weird than normal in this one. Runner ups: somersault, june 60 Most lush: If we’re considering lush for *both* clean *and* with overdrive, the somersault does it best for me. Runner ups: june 60, warped vinyl, all the boss pedals . Gear: Fender thinline jag, Fender pj mustang bass, Fender '65 princeton reverb reissue, Boss RC-20xl for looping, and the Boss BD-2, RE-20, and EQD ghost echo Background is from The Illusionist (2010)
Boss Chorus Shootout - Exploring the subtle differences between the range of Boss chorus pedals. Which is your favourite compact Boss chorus pedal? - Boss CE-2w USA: 🤍 UK: 🤍 - Boss DC-2w USA: 🤍 UK: 🤍 - Boss CH-1 USA: 🤍 UK: 🤍 - Boss CE-5 USA: 🤍 UK: 🤍 Timecodes: 00:00 - Intro 00:09 - CE-2w 03:03 - DC-2w 06:28 - CH-1 09:08 - CE-5 12:46 - Stereo Setup 13:18 - Summary The CE-2w is a reissue of the original CE-2 that came out in 79’. The main characteristics of the CE-2w for me are the warm mid range focused sound that it has and the natural sounding sweep to the wave form of the modulation. On the standard CE-2 setting the range and depth control are fairly limited, the rate won’t go very fast and the depth doesn't go very deep. In standard mode it’s all about warm, smooth and mellow chorus sounds. The CE-1 setting has a much deeper more throbbing modulation sound but is still limited as to how fast it can go with the rate control. The third mode; the vibrato mode solves that by keeping the deep modulation sound of the CE-1 mode but it can go much faster. The CE-2w is really versatile but I’d recommend it most for people who want a natural sounding, smooth, mid range focused analogue chorus sound. The DC-2w is a reissue of the original DC-2 which is a compact version of the Roland SDD-320 rack unit. The DC-2 is all about bright shimmer with lots of presence. It doesn’t get very fast or intense even on setting 4 so no fast wobbly vibrato settings here, but it does have it’s own character and a very good stereo mode. You can also combine any two of the buttons for a multi voiced chorus effect but because each individual mode is quite subtle it doesn’t change the sound that much. The SDD-320 mode increases the presence, which brings out the bright shimmery quality of the pedal even more. The CH-1 has got a slightly darker more neutral sounding EQ character compared to the other pedals. The wave form of the modulation seems steeper too. The controls are easy to understand and they have a good amount of range. A very versatile and easy to use chorus pedal. The CE-5 I think gives the most modern sound. There are high and low filters that cut the treble and bass as you turn them to the left. The CE-5 is great at doing more extreme settings. There is loads of range in the controls and the waveform seems very deep and sharp.

Welcome to That Pedal Show! Please subscribe to our channel and visit our store 🤍 In this episode Daniel and Mick revisit the wonderful world of chorus sounds, chiefly around the genre-defining evolution of early Boss CE-1 and CE-2 pedals. That’s currently relevant because the brand has recently released its higher-end, Japanese-made Waza Craft line of pedals, one of which is the CE-2w. So, we compare an original CE-1, CE-2 and the new CE-2w, plus a small selection of other chorus pedals that we rate very highly. For good measure we also have a Roland JC-120 on hand. I've always struggled to find modulation pedals that I actually like. I grew up in the '80s where you didn't hear a guitar unless it was completely over-saturated in chorus and over the years that take its toll to where you end up liking less effects on your guitar tone. Now everything has changed since James brought over his TC Electronic SCF STEREO CHORUS FLANGER. I loved this so much that I ordered one straight away. Please note that this is not a sponsored video James and myself have paid for these pedals out of our own money. The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

You'll not only hear the MXR Analog Chorus for clean tones, but also for rock and metal guitar tones! Here's the free practice guide I mentioned towards the end of the video: 🤍 I've been wanting a chorus pedal for a while now. So I finally broke down and picked one up! I was at Replay Guitar Exchange doing a demo of one of their amps (that's an awesome music store in Tampa, FL). And as I was walking out, I saw this MXR Analog Chorus pedal. It was in the used section for a really good price, so I snagged it! Here's the video of the amp I was demoing: 🤍 Let me know what you think about these tones you're hearing in this video! I mainly use the chorus effect for clean sounds, but I also wanted you to hear what it sounded like for rock and metal. Its feature set extends far beyond the usual suspects (rate, depth). An analog LFO with waveform switch toggles between sine and triangle wave shapes, enabling more reserved or dramatic effects as occasions demand; an LFO LED blinks in time for visual feedback. Most unique to the Walrus Audio Julia V2 is the Lag control, which determines how much “swing” each LFO sweep has. Together with the Depth control, Julia’s Lag knob really takes this pedal into a new realm of sound-shaping possibility. The Boss CE-2 Chorus (🤍 pedal was made from 1979 to 1992 and was the original chorus pedal for many players. Made in Japan with only two knobs for Rate and Depth, the CE-2 is a durable and simple pedal that might be what you’re looking for, if you’re chasing a classic chorus tone. As with most chorus effects, the Rate knob can dial in long sweeps or faster wobbles and the Depth control determines how much of the effect is applied to your sound. Don’t want to buy a chorus or flanger? Your delay might give you those sounds! Life too short for long YouTube videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below. Welcome to the show! We’re keeping it short and simple this week. Did you know that many (but not all) popular delay pedals can also give you chorus and flanger sounds? Well they can! What we’re demonstrating here are the core principles of chorus and flanger sounds. For sure, a dedicated chorus or flanger pedal will give you a more fully formed version of the effect with other parameter tweaks, not to mention many different variations of the effect. But if you don’t want to spend the cash, your humble delay pedal may be able to dial in some cool chorussy/flangey tones. You need a delay pedal that: a) Has modulation; and b) goes down below 50ms for chorus and below 5ms for flanging. Have fun! This is a review / demo of the Small Clone Chorus pedal from Electro Harmonix in NYC. The Small Clone is a classic chorus pedal design, with the most simple control set but with a great vibe and tone. It is just a great voiced chorus without over-complicating matters. It offers very usable chorus sounds from the most subtle and sweet sounding - all the way to over the top heavily chorused weirdness! Built to the usual Electro Harmonix standard - and this is still made in the old school vintage styled chassis with silk screened graphics. MXR M234 Analog Chorus This all-analog pedal uses bucket-brigade circuitry to create classically lush, liquid textures that you just can't get with digital circuitry. Rate, Level, and Depth controls, as well as knobs for cutting High and Low frequencies allow ultimate tone control. Like all MXR pedals, the M234 comes in a heavy-duty housing with durable jacks and switches for a lifetime on the road. 🤍 Signal chain: Michael+Gibson 335+MXR Analog Chorus+Mesa Boogie Lone Star Special Produced & Directed by Joey Tosi Perfromed by Michael Abraham Art Direction by Graham Shaw Sound Engineering by Max Baloian Music Direction by Bryan Kehoe Cinematography by Donavan Sell & Danny Nieder 🤍jimdunlop.com

7 great Chorus pedals, which one do you like most? Featuring: MXR Stereo Chorus, MXR Analog Chorus, MXR Micro Chorus, Walrus Audio Julia, Boss CE-2w Waza Craft, Mooer Ensemble King, Stonefish Chorus Vibrato Please subscribe to my channel ;-)
A pretty thorough comparison of seven Chorus Pedals. Apologies for making you listen to the same loop for over 7 minutes. Oh, and at the end, I put them all on at once, just for fun. Boss CE-2w (analog) JAM Waterfall (analog) MXR Analog Chorus (analog) Electro-Harmonix Bass Clone (analog) Keeley Electronics DynoMyRoto Tri-Chorus (digital) Mad Professor Electric Blue Chorus (analog) Walrus Audio Julia (analog) My favourite is probably the CE-2w on its CE-1 setting, or the Waterfall, which is of course the most expensive of the lot. The MXR just isn't as full-sounding, and Tri-Chorus can be a bit too all-encompassing for me sometimes. The cheapest, the Bass Clone, is actually pretty good, and has a very different unique sound compared to the others. And a runner-up mention for the Mad Professor, which bills itself as 'the chorus pedal for people who don't like chorus pedals', and has a great Leslie-ish chorus sound. (But I'm a little distracted by hearing a mild slapback delay in there.) Fender Thinline Telecaster, looped on EHX Canyon Boss Katana 50W on the Clean channel, mic'd with a Sennheiser e609 Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 into GarageBand and Final Cut Pro

Get the BOSS CE-5 here: 🤍 The BOSS CE-5 Stereo Chorus Ensemble is voiced for a modern, aggressive guitar tone; the chorusing is clear and defined, no matter how much distortion you pour on it. I'm demoing it through a Fender Princeton Reverb amp and even through an amp this size I can hear the fat low-end this chorus is capable of. Conversely, the Hi and Lo Cut filter controls can take the edge off of the chorus for a more traditional sound. Yet another cool, useful pedal housed in the iconic BOSS stompbox. Thanks for watching! You see them always end up on those Amazon wish lists of the most popular pedals, so someone is clearly buying them. But you figure probably a bunch of dumb kids too stupid to know quality, but... have you ever actually tried or listened to it yourself? Is it really worth spending $300 on a boutique chorus? Let's take a few minutes and have a listen, shall we? :-) Enjoy.
